Each year, ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø students, faculty, staff, and administrators volunteer time to fulfill the college's mission of serving communities and enhancing the larger community ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø serves. Several opportunities are offered throughout the year for students and employees to be part of a strong ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø tradition of celebrating community service.
2025 9/11 Day of Service
In recent years, there has been a national movement to transform the anniversary of 9/11 into a . On Thursday, September 11, ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø will join these national efforts and host its third annual 9/11 Day of Service.
Volunteer service opportunities will be available on-campus at each ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø location, virtually through the online education department, and off-campus at local non-profit organizations within our communities.
Activities in development include a Highway Clean-Up project, assembling Happy Kits for Children's Mercy Hospital patients, creating t-shirt dog toys for Wayside Waifs, writing notes to nursing home residents, and much more!
In early September, we'll email the event details to current ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø students, and informational fliers will be posted on campus detailing how you can get involved. As information, for those on a tight schedule, a variety of on-campus volunteer activities will be available for students and employees that can be completed in as little as 10-15 minutes!
"Service is a great way to get together and have fun while meeting new people!" - ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø Student
If everyone does a little, then we can achieve big things. Someone once said that service is how we pay rent for living on this planet. I am way behind on "paying rent," so I have a lot of things I need to do, and I am glad to be a part of ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø's service activities. - ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø Faculty
Service in the Classroom
As part of ±¬ÁϳԹÏÍø's Small Business Management (BUSN 204) course taught by Dr. Amanda Crowe, students run a t-shirt business for the semester. Students develop t-shirt designs, create and implement a marketing plan, handle logistics, sell and distribute the t-shirts, and keep track of the accounting of their small business assets.
The proceeds from the t-shirt sales are donated to a local non-profit organization. This project have raised thousands of dollars that has been donated to organizations like Operation Breakthrough, Harvesters, Veteran's Community Project, ReHope Kansas City, and Hope Lodge.

$1,533 raised for Harvesters in 2023

$1,501 raised for ReHope KC in 2024
